The art of not thinking

In a recent group discussion the subject of working methods came up. I said the following...

I don't know why planning and overthinking kills my process of drawing and painting. I have to make my decisions using a combination of intuition and response. And I can never repeat a painting- which can be frustrating when I'm trying to achieve similar success- but it is probably a good thing. No formula's for me! Just intense and exploratory markmaking in the hope that I will come across something I have never seen before. And I enjoy that sense of awe when something, for some reason, works well. Art...a few dollars worth of stuff someone did something to!
